Step 1: Editing Exercise
Overview:
- The attached test is designed to assess your language and comprehension skills as well as your attention to detail. Kindly edit any two of the three passages that are most relevant to your educational qualifications and background.
- Read and follow the instructions carefully before you begin. Please use the “Track changes” feature of MS Word when taking the test. (Instructions are provided in the test document.)
- To improve your chances of success, please view this video on how to carry out the edit before you take the test:
- Please proofread your document in final view once you are done with the test.
- Your performance on this test will determine your aptitude for this function. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you complete this exercise in one sitting and without distractions.
- We expect heavy editing to the document and hence we recommend that you spend at least thirty to forty-five minutes on the exercise as some errors might not be immediately apparent.
- Remember to proofread your work before you submit.
Step 2: Application Form
Please fill out the attached application form and e-mail it along with the completed test.
Step 3: Covering letter
Prepare a covering letter that explains (in no more than 150 words) your motivation behind applying for this role.
Once you have submitted your test and application form, your test will be queued up for review.
Note: As an associate editor (AE) at CACTUS, you will interact with and review manuscripts edited by our freelance editors from around the world. The attached test, though, gauges whether you possess editorial sensibilities, which will qualify you to review the work of our experienced freelance editors. Note that editing documents is not the primary characteristic of your role as an AE; reviewing edited documents is. You’ll learn more about this from your CACTUS POC, depending on the results of this test
